Pomona Cannabis Dispensaries Risks
In the following link I explain my point of view to the city council about the cannabis business Click Cannabis Dispensaries YouTube City Intervention the message is in Spanish followed by English Interpretation
In 2006, the city council prohibited approving marijuana businesses in Pomona, prioritizing community safety.
The board concluded the city would be more attractive for newer residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional development.
The council's decision was based on one study conducted by at least 30 professional agencies and experts. To mention just a few of them:
- The California Department of Justice
- The Office of the California Attorney
- The California Narcotics Officers Association,
- Office of San Bernardino County Counsel
- Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office
- California. State Sheriffs' Association
- Trinity County Sheriff's Department
- California State Sheriffs' Association
The study document named "White Paper on Marijuana Dispensaries" affirms that those types of establishments compromise the health and welfare of the citizens.
The council knew that by facilitating the sale of marijuana, there would be more burglaries, robberies, sales of illegal drugs, youth use, alcohol consumption, the abuse of prescription drugs, traffic fatalities, crime, and adverse environmental effects.
Regardless of the ability of any reasonable person to use common sense, there are many studies about the relationship between crime increase and youth influence by drug exposure. Yet, this council was interested in collecting more tax money from the dispensaries, ignoring all the facts before being presented.
The same people elected to protect the citizens from any harm or criminal risk post themselves proudly, showing the acceptance of donations from those sources. Even worse, to say that it is for the children's benefit. It is like saying, "Look, using marijuana is good because we collect more taxes, and we can get donations for the children!" yea! Let us all consume more.
We cannot even say that the day will come when people will be lying on the streets drugged and lost because we are already there. Instead of helping them with health recovery programs, education, and opportunities to recover their dignity, the city is inducing the rest of the people to fall into it.
City Revenues for Cannabis Sales Exceed Expectations
The city originally expected to collect $760,000 in 2021. $1,128,689 in 2022 and $2,6000,000 in 2023
