Pomona; Affordable Housing Needed and Demanded by the State of CA

Daily Bulletin Article

The new housing construction projects so far are neither affordable nor market stabilizers.

Facts: The new homes for sale are on a price average of $750,000 with an estimated mortgage payment of $6,000 per month. The time to get city permits to build new homes takes years. The State Requirements

An article in the Daily Bulletin newspaper in February 2022 stated:

Pomona is expected to have enough room to accommodate nearly 15,000 new residential units over the next eight years, according to its state-mandated housing plan.“Pomona is required to make room for a total of 10,558 units, including 2,799 units for those with very low incomes, 1,339 units for those with low incomes, 1,510 units for moderate incomes, and 4,910 units for above-moderate incomes.”

Our possibilities

According to the city's official documents, Pomona city owns 24% of the city's land. That means that the people of Pomona own enough land to build the housing needed and required by the State.

Today’s "State of Homeless" presentation named about 50 local, county, state, and federal institutions or agencies supposedly collaborating to combat homelessness. Are we saying that the richest and most powerful country in the world with all the land and resources mentioned here, we are having a hard time just building enough homes to combat homelessness and the high values of home prices and rent?

What I perceive is a government system unwilling to solve the problem either due to inefficiency or lack of willingness to. There is no excuse to have built the home required to fix the problem so far.

What I see, a system levering from the needs and misfortunes of the people. If there are poor people, there is a way to profit from them. That explains the lack of action to combat the huge problems the city faces.

24% of the city's land is the people's property.
