Pomona's New Rent Control Ordinance 2022
Pomona council passed a new rent control ordinance intending to stabilize the housing market, but how can anyone put in a basket ten oranges where the basket size is for just five? It is the same situation with the rent control fallacy. It is a matter of housing shortage. No rent control will affect the housing crisis if there aren't enough houses to rent or buy. It is a matter of supply and demand.
The new ordinance affects a small sector of property landlords. The following is the list of properties exempt:
- Properties built after February 1, 1995
- Single-family, condominiums, and townhomes
- Any properties for which the landlord receives government housing assistance.
- Properties that are in a subdivided interest in a subdivision as specified in the professional code section 11004-5.
For those matters, it is unfair for some landlords while others aren't affected by the same ordinance.
Attached is the approved document/ordinance.
